About the Concept
The Fresh Start Method applies Transformative Learning theory to catalyze meaningful shifts across four essential areas. It begins by reshaping how individuals see themselves at a psychological level, then challenges and evolves their core belief systems. The method drives tangible lifestyle changes through behavioral transformation while strengthening people’s ability to learn and connect in today’s digital landscape.

Discover the Difference
This financial literacy program’s core innovation is its use of Transformative Learning Theory to deliver consistent, evidence-based outcomes. By integrating psychology, sociology, mental health principles, and adult education methodologies, the program offers a comprehensive understanding of learner needs. Over 16 years of implementation have proven that participants can achieve significant results in a compressed time frame.
Defining Financial Literacy
Financial literacy extends far beyond budgeting and saving—it’s rooted in your relationship with money and how you assess its influence on your life. Your financial behaviors and economic health are shaped by multiple forces: cognitive biases, self-control challenges, social circles, family dynamics, economic conditions, community norms, and institutional structures all play a role in determining how you manage and think about money.

Transformative Learning
Transformative learning recognizes that adults learn differently, and honoring these differences is essential for achieving meaningful outcomes. By applying Transformative Learning Theory, the program adapts to your unique learning style, creating a richer educational experience and stronger grasp of the material.
Mentoring
We bring our expertise to guide and support your growth while building essential skills. By sharing insights and opening doors to opportunities you might not access alone, we take on multiple mentoring roles—coach, connector, motivator—adapting our approach to help you reach your full potential. Our commitment extends well beyond simple advice-giving to encompass whatever support you need to succeed.
The Founder

Hi, I’m Sandra Roussel, founder of A Fresh Start Method—an organization I initially launched to bring financial literacy education to individuals experiencing homelessness in transitional housing. I’ve always believed that financial literacy encompasses far more than the fundamentals of spending, saving, and budgeting. At its essence, it’s about understanding our relationship with money and developing the ability to weigh its potential to help or hinder our lives.
True financial literacy requires recognizing the multifaceted forces shaping our financial decisions: our cognitive biases and struggles with self-control, the influence of family and friends, social and peer pressures, sophisticated marketing strategies, prevailing economic conditions, community expectations, and systemic barriers.
Today, I’m bringing these proven, successful methods to a wider audience—helping people break free from the paycheck-to-paycheck cycle and build the life they’ve envisioned, with opportunities that align with their dreams.
